SpiceJet, the country’s favourite carrier, today announced the launch of daily direct flights to the newly built Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda from Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, UDAN.
Jharsuguda, Odisha’s top investment and manufacturing hub, marks SpiceJet’s maiden entry into the State and will be the airline’s tenth destination under UDAN. The airline is all set to kick start operations to Jharsuguda from 31st March, 2019.
Jharsuguda is Odisha’s second biggest airport and the only one to handle civil commercial operations after the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.
SpiceJet is the first Indian carrier to connect the un-served market of Jharsuguda with Delhi and Hyderabad. The airline will launch daily direct flights on the Jharsuguda-Delhi-Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda-Hyderabad-Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda-Kolkata-Jharsuguda sectors. With the addition of these new flights, SpiceJet will be operating 29 daily flights under the regional connectivity scheme.

SpiceJet is celebrating the launch by announcing an introductory promotional fare starting at INR 3701/- all inclusive on Delhi-Jharsuguda, Jharsuguda-Delhi, Jharsuguda-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Jharsuguda routes, INR 2560/- all inclusive on Jharsuguda-Kolkata and Kolkata-Jharsuguda routes.
SpiceJet is India’s largest and most organized regional player. UDAN III saw SpiceJet bagging 36 new sectors, two catering to the unserved markets of Ghazipur and Jharsuguda whereas nine catering to the underserved markets of Adampur, Agra, Belagavi, Bhavnagar, Durgapur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, Pantnagar, and Tanjore.
The airline will be deploying its Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the Jharsuguda-Delhi-Jharsuguda sector whereas the other two UDAN sectors of Jharsuguda-Hyderabad-Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda-Kolkata-Jharsuguda would be served by its Bombardier Q400 fleet.
At present, SpiceJet operates 23 flights under UDAN on the routes of Delhi-Kishangarh-Delhi, Kolkata-Pakyong-Kolkata, Guwahati-Pakyong-Guwahati, Mumbai-Porbandar, Mumbai-Kandla-Mumbai, Hyderabad-Puducherry-Hyderabad, Jaipur-Jaisalmer-Jaipur, Delhi-Adampur-Delhi, Ahmedabad-Jaisalmer-Ahmedabad, Surat-Jaisalmer-Surat and Delhi-Kanpur-Delhi.
The Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. With the new flights, passengers from Jharsuguda will now be able to easily travel to a host of cities on SpiceJet’s domestic as well as international network via multiple onward connections from key metros.
