Samaritan Heart Institute, Aluva, launches programme to conduct 100 heart surgeries at free of cost for patients from BPL families.
Recognising the fact that heart ailments have attained epidemic proportions in Kerala, and it needed collective efforts of all stakeholders—hospitals, government, and the larger society—to bring relief to the patients, the Samaritan Heart Institute has decided to conduct 100 heart surgeries at nominal costs for the people belonging to the economically backward segment of our society in the next one year.
Christened ‘Snehaspandanam-Save a Heart Save a Life’, the project will be inaugurated by Health Minister of Kerala K. K. Shailaja Teacher on January 28, 2017. ‘Snehaspandanam-Save a Heart Save a Life’’ project envisages Bypass surgery as below: –
Bypass surgery
The Samaritan Heart Institute has been receiving patients with chronic total occlusion and calcified lesions which may not be qualified for angioplasty. Several such patients are comparatively from the poor economic background who never come back to Institute, or any hospital, to receive the line of treatment suggested. Many of them, unfortunately, suffer critical heart attack or arrest and to succumb to ailments. It is for such patients that the Samaritan Heart Institute has planned the bypass surgery programme.
The selection process
Patients to consult the public relations officer of the Samaritan Heart Institute with related documents and soft copy of angiogram.
The PRO would scrutiny the relevant papers and arrange for the consultation of the patient with surgeon. The PRO will also obtain the recommendation from surgeon for the CABG for the patient and forward the relevant papers and recommendations to the committee with his comments.
The committee would review the case and approve / reject the application with reasons. Approved applicants shall be forwarded to surgical department for scheduling the surgery. Patient may complete the pre-op formalities on arriving for surgery.
Any member of the public can nominate a deserving patient for the surgery from anywhere in Kerala.
For the sponsors:
The Samaritan Heart Institute would like to enlist the support of the Good Samaritans of our society to join hands with us to bring relief to the poor patients through this fully transparent scheme. Corporates as well as individuals can come forward with a helping hand to this project. They may sponsor either the bypass surgery. The sponsor’s share for a bypass surgery will be Rs 60,000 and two sponsors will be there for a bypass surgery. However, a single sponsor can contribute Rs.1,20,000 for a patient.
Balance complete cost would be absorbed by the Heart Institute.
HridayaSangamam – 2017
Samaritan Heart Institute has performed more than 1000 Angioplasties and a number of cardiac surgeries ever since it has restarted Cardiac Surgeries. All such patients would be assembled and special classes would be taken by prominent Cardiologists and Cardiac Surgeons.

Mega Camp
Samaritan Heart Institute conducts free cardiac camp on 28 th January, 2017 for the first 600 patients, starting from 9 am. Initial diagnostics would be done in this Camp. Camp will be inaugurated by Innocent M.P., Chalakkudy and Actor. All are requested to participate in the same.
Cardiac Exhibition
As part of making awareness of the Cardiac ailments and the importance for the preventive mechanism, Samaritan Heart Institute conducts a Cardiac Exhibition on 28 th January, 2017 from 9 am to 5 pm. Various models of equipments and knowledge share related cardiac diseases would be done at the same. Cardiac Exhibition would be inaugurated by Bharat.Salim Kumar, Actor.
