PALAKKAD:
The Tourism Department has given administrative sanction to a Rs 99.5- lakh project to upgrade the Shivarama Park at Wadakkanchery in the district.
Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas said the project seeks to make “full use” of the unexplored potential of Wadakkanchery in terms of culture and tourism. “The work will completely address the inadequacies of the park,” he added.
The 19 categories of renovation works envisaged under the project include perimeter wall, murals, mansion, toilets, security cameras, art installations, lighting systems and ground maintenance. Besides, water and electricity systems will be upgraded.
The District Tourism Promotion Council will bear half of the sanctioned amount, while the rest would be borne equally by the Tourism Department and the Grama Panchayat. DTPC and the Grama Panchayat will jointly manage and maintain the renovated park.
