THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
To celebrate the passion for environmental sustainability and better living for our future generations country’s largest bank, State Bank of India is back with its 3rd edition of SBI Green Marathon. Mrigendra Lal Das, CGM, Thiruvananthapuram Circle, SBI flagged-off the runs that witnessed over 2000 enthusiastic runners.
Air Vice Marshal P E Patange was the chief guest of the event.B Loknath Behera, DGP & State Police Chief, Kerala, K.M. Beenamol, International Athlete & Padma Shri awardee and other personalities from athletics and sports, graced the event. The Sunday morning in the Shangumugham Beach observed participants from across the city running 5, 10, 21 Kms marathon, pledging for a greener future.
The winners in 21 kms marathon in women category were Hannah Gatheru (01: 23:12), Phoolan Pal (01:24:24), Sandhya K. J. (01:31:40) bagging first, second and third rank respectively. The winners in 21 kms marathon in men category were Rahul Sisodiya (01:13:29), Isaac Ngemui (01:14:55), Mikiyas Lemlemu (01:16:47) who came first, second and third respectively.
The winners in 10 kms marathon in women category were Safeeda M.P. (00:44:30), Sandra P. M. (00:49:11), Barish Rains (01:00:46) with rank first, second and third respectively. The winners in 10 kms marathon in men category were Abrar Ahmed (00:35:11), Aswin Antony (00:35:12), Jose G (00:35:19) ranking first, second and third respectively.
Senior officials of the bank also participated in the run along with other participants. All the runners were given organic t-shirts to promote clean and green city. The bibs of 5kms runners consist of seeds which will be planted post marathon.
The 3rd edition of the 15 cities SBI Green Marathon will travel to Bengaluru, New Delhi, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Patna and Jaipur with the inaugural run recently concluded in Lucknow followed by Guwahati. SBI General Insurance is the health partner for SBI Green Marathon whereas SBI Life and SBI Mutual Funds are also significantly contributing to this zero waste event.
