THRISSUR:
The government will soon frame rules, guidelines, and protocols for the manner in which therapy centres for the differently abled should function, Health Minister K.K. Shylaja has said.
Therapy centres for those with autism, cerebral palsy, etc., will have to have mandatory registration under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. These centres will also be graded and have to adhere to the guidelines regarding the facilities, infrastructure, and staff structure each of these institutions should have.
She was inaugurating the new facilities at the National Institute of Physical Medicine Rehabilitation in Thrissur. The government will frame legislation regarding the minimum standards therapy centres should have. The government-run therapy centres with adequate facilities will be empanelled by the government and selected children will be given financial assistance to get therapy done at these centres.
Autism centres will soon be set up at six government medical college hospitals.
