NOIDA:
RICS School of Built Environment (SBE) Amity University has implemented an innovative internship idea for its current students when the country is yet to recover from the pandemic fully.
Usually, in regular times, the students go through a mandatory 2-month internship in the industry, but the traditional internships cannot occur in the current scenario when the pandemic has created unprecedented times yet again, with various kinds of restrictions bringing constraints for everybody again, especially the student community. Managing within these restrictions and without compromising on student safety, the leadership teams at RICS SBE feels it is essential to maintain continuity in their education and training. In keeping with this view, the institute has innovatively transformed the internships into intensive research projects based on the specific needs of the industry organizations which the students have undertaken from the safety of their homes.
With the active involvement of the RICS Research Team, Faculty of Northumbria University, and senior industry professionals, the RICS SBE internship team has brainstormed and prepared a list of research topics related to issues for which the industry is looking for answers. According to their interests, students have chosen their internship projects and assigned a mentor and industry veteran who would guide them through their research.
Commenting on this positive development at RICS SBE, Ashwani Awasthi, MD said, “Academic Institutions were set to open after noticing a decline in the number of cases in Covid-19, but then in early April, India was hit by the second wave of Covid. Knowing that the students will be frustrated about missing out on another direct industry exposure as they cannot be present on the site under the current circumstances, we decided to bring the industry to them. The institute has innovatively transformed the internship process into an intensive research project-based internship focused on the specific needs of the industry organizations. These internships have evolved after a significant thinking and effort to ensure that students are able to receive as close to real-world experience as feasible given the current challenging circumstances.”
“We are happy to share that our students are placed for internships at some of the highly esteemed organizations in the industry. We feel proud when top recruiters recognize our students’ potential. Our mission is to help students build their entrepreneurial and employability skills over time. We appreciate the organizations that have shown interest in the RICS School of Built Environment by recruiting students and giving opportunities for them to strengthen their skills,” he stated.
During these challenging times, when covid 2nd phase has impacted almost every student at all levels, RICS SBE has been able to get these innovative international internships for its Students. Some of the leading organizations that have offered internships to the RICS SBE students this year are M-Realty, Tata Projects, Savills, Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Pvt Ltd, CBRE, DSR Infra, Nirman India Constructions Pvt Ltd, CQRA, HLK, Infra Anarock, Roodland, Rider Levett Bucknall, Chuan Lim Engineering Pte.
