

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Prof P Balaram, former Director of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, will deliver the Foundation Day lecture of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) at 11 am on November 25.
The topic of this year’s lecture is “Chemistry, Biology and the Unity of Nature.”
In a distinguished career spanning over several decades, Prof Padmanabhan Balaram has contributed extensively in the field of molecular biophysics and chemical biology. Recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, he served as Editor of Current Science from 1995 to 2013, during which he penned over 300 editorials on diverse subjects related to science and scientists.
After graduating from Poona University, Prof Balaram did his M.Sc from IIT Kanpur and PhD from the Carnegie-Mellon University, USA, and also served as Research Associate at Harvard University.
Currently associated with the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru, as the DST-YOS Chair Professor, the honours received by him included R Bruce Merrifield award of the American Peptide Society.
