KOCHI:
Aruna Sundararajan, Secretary Telecom & Chairman Telecom Commission, Govt. of India, has visited the technology expo of Maker Village arranged at the side lines of Tiecon Kerala 2018 here on Saturday.
After visiting the expo, she said that few of the showcased products are highly impressive and can be huge success stories from Maker Village in the days to come. She has assured all the support from the Union Government to scale up the products. She has also lauded the commendable progress made by Maker Village, which hosts about 65 start ups anchoring cutting edge technologies, since its inception.
Keeping in mind, that no technology is complete until it is of any use to the common man, Maker Village, the largest hardware incubator in the country has come up with an array of start-ups which have the perfect blend of state of the art technology that could tackle social needs, at the TiEcon Summit.
The 14 startups that were lined up in a technology expo have technologies that could deal with rural, environmental, healthcare, disaster management and other social needs.
For instance, Ascent technologies, a start up incubated at the Maker Village has come up with a mapping system that can identify the right hospital and the doctor as well as the availability of ambulance during an emergency, said Prasad Balakrishnan Nair, CEO, Maker Village.
“Suppose, if an emergency arises and want to rush somebody to the hospital? By the time, the hospital and the availability of doctors as well as an ambulance to take the patient to the hospital are identified; there are huge chances that the patient would lose his/her life even before he/she gets the treatment. So this technology can be of immense assistance during such cases,” he pointed out.
Yet another startup has developed a portable ECG monitoring system at an affordable rate. Pointing out such technologies are the need of the hour, Prasad explained that such a facility could save a lot of lives in the hinterlands where ECG monitoring are a rarity.
“Only the big hospitals are endowed with ECG facilities. Hence, if we can take such facilities to the rural areas, lots of lives can be saved.” Besides, this is a startup piloted by by a woman entrepreneur which itself is significant.
Another interesting product is that which provides a waste water recycling solution for households, which could be revolution in the house hold segment. This solution from the company called Ecodew will have applications in flats, villas and SMEs especially in the urban areas.
The automated IV solution from Eve labs is the first of its kind in the country, with huge application in cases where there is the need for large scale and long duration infusion. This product will have excellent application in old age homes and patients ridden at houses.
From technologies that could be used in the disaster management to technology on how to detect symptoms of udder diseases while milking the cow were presented there.
As the Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been percolated into people’s lives in such a way that its importance could not be underplayed anymore, he pointed out. “This does not mean that our focuses are constricted to social causes alone, but a larger market.”
Apart from this there were few exciting technology startups who are getting ready for making it big in the global markets. Cavalier Wireless, a company from Maker Village offers a solution which gives global connectivity for the IOT devices for the telecom service providers. Cavalier is in talks with a few telecom giants from different of the world. The deals, which are expected to be finalised in the next 3 months time, could become one of the biggest success story from Kerala.
Bangalore based company Ignitarium has started incubating its automated asset and people tracking solution at Maker Village recently. The solution leveraging Machine Learning is another product which is targeting the Global Markets.
