Bhubaneswar: A tribal man in India’s poorest region Kalahandi in Odisha was forced to walk 10 km carrying the body of his wife on his shoulders along with his 12-year-old daughter just because he had no money for transportation. This is in spite of the repeated appeals he made to the hospital authorities for the free mortuary van service provided by the state government.
His plight ended when it was highlighted by the local media persons and the administration provided him with a van to complete the remaining 50 km journey to his native village.
The poor tribal Dana Majhi’s 42-year-old wife Amang Dei had died of tuberculosis.
