    NEW DELHI:
Delhi Police will reach out to Twitter and Google to curb and identify troublemakers using social media to provoke violence through fake news posts on the Citizenship Amendment Act, Home Ministry sources said on Wednesday.

The sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs said that police will take the help of the social media organisations to curb fake news and also to identify people indulging in rumour mongering.

The sources also said that the alleged footage of a policeman pointing a gun in Jamia Nagar is being investigated.

Police will also try to identify the people connected to the violence that erupted during anti-CAA protests at Jamia Nagar area of south Delhi on Sunday and Seelampur in east Delhi on Tuesday, the sources said, adding that except at Road No 13 near the Jamia Millia Islamia, there are no gatherings anywhere.

Stating that the situation in Delhi is peaceful, they said that the violence in Seelampur was controlled after some time and six more people were arrested on Wednesday, taking the total arrests since Tuesday to eight. All the eight are residents of the area.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been enforced in the capital”s North East District following incidents of violence during the anti-CAA protests in different places.

CCTV and drones have been deployed and police are monitoring the situation. Footage of Tuesday”s violence is also being analysed, the sources added. The sources also said that the situation is peaceful in all 42 Central universities.
