Police in Sangli have busted an illegal abortion racket; an FIR has been filed against three doctors, one has been arrested. As of now, the police have got the information about 9 illegal abortions performed by the doctor trio
Bombay HC grants permission for abortion in 28th week of pregnancy
In yet another shocking incident, which has come in the light, three doctors from Sangli, Maharashtra have been booked for performing an illegal abortion.
DYSP, Ashok Virkar said, “We have arrested Dr Rupali Chogule in connection with the illegal abortion racket. The doctors were performing the abortion procedure without a license. In the First Information Report (FIR) we have mentioned about 7 cases. But, the number could be more. As per our investigation, the women who have been operated are from Kolhapur, Sangli and Karnataka.”
DYSP Virkar further added, “Dr Rupali Chougule was performing the abortion surgeries since the past one year. We are in the process of calling the women for investigation, who have undergone the abortion procedure in this hospital. We have seized case papers and register from the hospital. This could provide a vital clue in the investigation.”
Police sources on the condition of anonymity, confirmed to My Medical Mantra, that the investigation is being done with an angle of female foeticide as well.
On the other hand, the Sangli Municipal Corporation has set up 10 teams of doctors, to scrutinise the hospitals and the nursing homes in the city.
