Kozhikode: Mediapersons who had come to Kozhikode First Class magistrate court to report the Ice Cream Parlour case were arrested by Kozhikode Town Sub inspector, on Saturday. The Officer arrested the media persons after denying them entry into court premises on the ground that the District Judge had ordered him to do so.
The arrested mediapersons and the OB van of a channel were taken to the police station.
However, as the incident snowballed into a major issue the judge clarified that he had issued no such order to ban the media from the court premises.
The bar association also clarified that they had not objected to the presence of the media. It should be noted that while there have been many instances of mediamen being prevented by hostile lawyers from reporting court procedures, Kozhikode bar has stayed away from such illegeal activities.
Top police officials defused the situation by holding talks with media representatives. The sub inspector has been relieved of his charge as the station inspector, according to a report.
