KOCHI:
PNB Housing Finance, India’s fifth-largest housing finance company, has donated a waste management truck to Credai’s ‘clean city movement’ as part of its initiative to promote a clean and hygienic environment in Kerala.
PNB Housing Finance has been associated with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai) in several social and environmental causes, including the ‘clean city movement’ which is currently tackling the issue of basic waste management in Kochi.
The ‘clean city movement’ is fast gathering momentum with more and more people coming forward and supporting the cause. Since there was a need for more waste collection vehicles to transport waste between residential colonies and the recycling unit, PNB Housing Finance donated the waste management truck to speed up the recycling process.
Discussing the community initiative, PNB Housing Manging Director Sanjaya Gupta said, “Conventional waste disposal techniques in Kochi have been polluting both land and water since many years, creating hygiene and environmental problems for residents of the city. I am sure the waste management truck will lead to more efficient disposal of waste and help address the pressing issue of hygiene. We are happy to associate with Credai’s ‘clean city movement’ as community- corporate initiatives such as this one can go a long way to educate the masses and clean up our cities in a sustainable way.”
Commenting on the initiative Dr. Najeeb Zackeria, Chairman, Credai Clean City Movement National said, “It gives me great pride to acknowledge that PNB Housing Finance Ltd. has helped in enhancing the operation of the Credai Clean City Movement in Kerala by contributing an LMV vehicle from their CSR fund. This will help in improving the management of recyclable and non-recyclable dry waste from over 650 apartment complexes. Credai as part of its CSR operations had started service of CCCM to provide decentralized solid waste management in high rise residential complexes since 2007. This has helped in huge annual savings (in crores) to the urban local bodies. We are proud to be recognized by the Ministry of Urban Development Government of India as the most effective and sustainable model for decentralized waste management across the country”.
