KOCHI:
Department of Agriculture, Government of Karnataka in association with Karnataka State Agricultural Produce Processing and Export Corporation Ltd (KAPPEC) and International Competence Centre of Organic Agriculture (ICCOA) will conduct the Organic and Millets 2018 International Trade Fair at Palace Ground, Banagalore, from January 19 to 21, 2018.
The Trade Fair will comprise of a hi-quality exhibition from leading companies in organic agribusiness and state govts., B2B Meetings, B2C events, International and Domestic Buyers Delegation, International Conference, Farmers Workshop & Organic Food Courts. The road show as part of the Fair at Kochi was inaugurated by Karantaka Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
ICCOA executive director Manoj Menon, Karantaka agriculture department commissioner G Satish, secretary M Maheshwara Rao and CISSA Thiruvananthapuram president Dr G G Gangadharan participated.
Inaugurating the road show, Krishna Byre Gowda said that though the organic farming has been increasing in the country more awareness should be created to expand the markets. He pointed out that the market should be expanded considering the growing demand for organic products.
‘When the markets grow, the price of the organic products will come down. However, the income of the farmers should also be considered and a sustainable agriculture package should be formulated for them’, the minister said.
The minister pointed out that in Kerala the number of diabetes patients are increasing. The production of grains should be increased and the products should be made available here, he added.
Around 300 booths of organic companies and brands will exhibit a diverse range of food and non-food organic products at the international trade fair. Exhibitors include organic companies, exporters, organic retailers, farmer groups, organic inputs companies, Govt agencies, etc.
International and domestic Buyers (including exporters, wholesalers and retailers) will be brought to meet with suppliers and farmer groups to negotiate trade and marketing. The conference aims to make a unique meeting place for all the organic stakeholders, policy makers, government and non government, where discussions, networking and interpersonal meetings will be the focus.
It will bring in leading domestic and international speakers from India and abroad. Around 200 delegates comprising of participants from diverse sectors constituting of farmers, traders/exporters, researchers, NGOs, Central and State Governments will participate.
Farmers from across India will be participating in large numbers, to get best benefit of this trade fair by understanding the Organic market trends, demands, organic certification process, export potentials etc., and thus understand both the technical as well as the commercial aspect of the organic agribusiness. The meet will also focus on creating awareness about organic food and its relevance to food safety, health and environment.
Special activities like Cooking competition for home- makers, demonstration of various ways of cooking Millets- the forgotten foods, organic food courts, consultation on health by dieticians and nutritional experts for general public will be held on the second day. Companies and stakeholders can participate as a partner to showcase their contribution to the organic movement/business.
