Kochi: Government officials are considered public servants and when one such ‘ servant’ sends out an official circular about his birthday to his subordinates in the state, it is likely to raise eye brows.
Tomin J Thachankary, a senior police officer and currently the Transport Commissioner of Kerala, is in the eye of a storm for issuing an official circular announcing his birthday and listing his achievments. The official circular ends with a gentle reminder to the 2200 officials of the transport department to savour the cake he sent to them as part of the celebration.
The circular begins with the message ” Today is my Birthday” in bold letters and ends with Independence Day Greetings.
However, the inappropriateness of his action has invited criticism from various quarters.
Transport Minister A. K. Saseendran has issued a directive to the Chief Secretary to review Thachankary’s action.
