THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Now girls can also join Kerala’s ambitious football training programme Kickoff, as part of the state government’s policy of creating a level-playing field in the sports domain.
Girls born between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2008 can enrol for the programme. The registration is open till February 22, the details of which are available on the website www.sportskeralakickoff.org
The preliminary selection will be held at the Government Girls High School at Payyannur in Kannur District, on February 23, at 7 am. A total of 50 candidates will be chosen for the final round after the initial round of ground tests, which includes speed test. The selected candidates will get an opportunity to join the preparation camp for four days, where they will undergo one hour coaching session each day. Ultimately, 25 candidates, who emerge successful through a series of ground tests, will qualify for the final list.
Those who have not made the online registration can join the selection process by directly providing their details at the spot counter at the venue before the exercise starts. In all, 25 candidates, who emerge successful through a series of ground tests, will make it to the final list. They will get opportunity to attend coaching camps to be organised as part of the project.
The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA) had earlier conducted camps for boys in different centres as part of the Kickoff project, in collaboration with organizations with domain expertise. Services of experienced coaches, including foreign trainers, had been enlisted for the conduct of these camps.
