The National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) has planned an online seminar on “Stroke: Warning Signs & Rehabilitation”, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Justice, on March 16.
The two-and-a-half hour webinar, to be conducted in Malayalam, aims at creating awareness on the causes, importance of early identification, intervention, management and rehabilitation options for the individuals suffering from Aphasia due to Stroke. The NISH online Interactive Disability Awareness Seminar (NIDAS) will be led by Arya SS, Audiologist/Speech Pathologist, Dept. of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, NISH.
The proceedings of the webinar will be streamed live for the registered participants from the NISH campus at Akkulam here from 10.30 am. This is the 38th webinar being organized by NISH.
Stroke or cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is one of the main causes of acquired language impairment in adults, called as Aphasia. Aphasia can manifest in patients as comprehension problem, difficulty to produce speech, limited repetition and naming difficulty.
Knowing the signs of stroke and immediate medical care can lessen the brain damage and reduce further complications. Aid of a team of professionals are important for comprehensive assessment and effective rehabilitation of patients with aphasia.
