As part of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) is holding a self-screening programme for parents, who are concerned over their children’s feeding behaviour, from December 3 to 7 on its campus here.
The event, planned by the Department of Neuro-Developmental Sciences (NDS) of NISH, is aimed at creating awareness on feeding difficulties in children and the intervention strategies needed to overcome the problems.The International Day for Persons with Disabilities falls on December 3.
On the sidelines of the programme, an orientation lecture on “Issues Related to Feeding in Children” on December 7 at Orchid Hall, Thejus at NISH campus from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Parents, social workers, nurses, and primary health care professionals can attend the programme.
Arya Manoharan and Aswathy AK, Speech Language Pathologists, NDS, will make presentations on “Feeding Difficulties in Neuro developmental Disorders” like cerebral palsy, global developmental disorders and autism spectrum disorders. Shyni MT, Physiotherapist, and Neethu Thampi M, Occupational Therapist, will talk on “Importance of Posture and Oral Sensory and Motor Skills Associated in Feeding.”
