New President for Pontifical Institute of Theology and Philosophy

Dr. Tomy Paul Kakkattuthadathil (Vanmelil) is chosen to head Pontifical Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Alwaye. Dr. Tomy Paul is hailing from Elanji in Ernakulam District and belongs to the Palai Diocese.
After finishing his Bachelor Degree in Philosophy and Theology from Paurasthya Vidyapitam, Vadavathoor, Kottayam, he was ordained as Priest in 1986 and he began his service in Parish Ministry. In 1989 he left for Belgium to join the University of Louvain for higher studies.
He took Post Graduation in Philosophy from the Louvain University, in 1992. Then he received PhD Degree in Philosophy from the same university in 1996. Intercultural Publications Delhi, published his Doctoral dissertation under the title “Otherness and Being Oneself” in 2001. Since 1997 Dr. Tomy Paul has been Professor at Pontifical Institute of Theology and Philosophy, Alwaye (PIA). He also taught at various philosophical Institutes in Kerala and has also published numerous works in various languages.
While working as the Vice-President of Pontifical Institute, he got appointment from the Sacred Congregation of Catholic Education in Rome, as the President of Pontifical Institute.
Pontifical Institute has got two separate campuses in Carmelgiri and Mangalapuzha and several affiliated Institutes such as POC Bible College, Divine Institute of Bible and Spirituality Muringoor, Ruhalaya Philosophical College Ujjain, Zion Vidya Bhavan Aluva and FCC center of Theology Portiuncula Ashokapuram. Pontifical Institute is competent to confer academic degrees of Baccalaureate, Licentiate and Doctorate in the areas of Philosophy and Theology. Pontifical Institute has also signed an academic collaboration with the Louvain University Belgium.
