Muthoot Finance, India’s largest gold loan NBFC Company inaugurated the M.G. George Muthoot Memorial Gate at St. Thomas College in Pathanamthitta in Kerala in order to pay homage to their former chairman Shri. M. G. George Muthoot. To mark the 10 th anniversary of St. Thomas College, the college had organized an inauguration ceremony for the memorial entrance gate along with memorial block and pavilion.
Rev. Fr. George David, College Director delivered the welcome speech. The memorial entrance gate was inaugurated by His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicose of the East and Malankara Metropoiltian in the presence of George M George – Deputy Managing Director, Muthoot Group on 7th August, 2022 at 03:00 PM, at St Thomas College, Thavalappara, Konni in Pathanamthitta. The function was presided by Rev. Kuriakose Mar Climis Metrropolita followed by a public meeting inauguration by Veena George – Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Kerala.
The ceremony was further facilitated by Anto Antony, MP, Adv. KU Janeeshkumar, MLA, Rev. Fr. Gigi Samuel, Malankara Sabha Managing Committee Member, Suleka V Nair, Konni Grama Panchayath President, and Prof. P Thomas Pulivelil.
Started in 2012, St. Thomas College is a higher education institution affiliated by Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam under the leadership of Thumpamon Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church. Over the period of ten years, the institution has grown into an important educational entity in Pathanamthitta district and is rapidly progressing in achieving high standards and gaining recognition as a reputable institution in the society. With an aim to facilitate the growth of the students and offer premium infrastructural experience to the learners, Muthoot Finance earmarked Rs. 8 Lakhs as part of this project.
Speaking on the CSR initiative, George M George – DMD, Muthoot Group said, “Pathanamthitta is the native place of the Muthoot Family and thus, holds a very special place in our hearts. It is truly said that charity begins at home. Therefore, in the past several years, we have undertaken various initiatives for the development of our home district. To nurture and promote quality education was a vision that our former Chairman Shri. M. G. George Muthoot’s strongly followed. In order to contribute towards the betterment of the infrastructure of the institute, we decided to build the M.G. George Muthoot Memorial Gate in St. Thomas College. We are extremely humbled and wish to continue to support the district in future as well with different initiatives as required”
To support the development of their native place- Pathanamthitta, Muthoot Finance has been continuously conducting CSR activities in the area. Some of the projects taken forward in the past included organizing medical check-up camps under FOMAA (Federation of Mayalee Associations of Americas), launching MG George Muthoot Cancer Centre to provide cancer treatment to the underprivileged people amongst others.
