M. P. Joseph, former District Collector Ernakulam and Mayor of Cochin, handed over a cheque of Rs. 555555 to the Mohammed Safirulla, District Collector, Ernakulam as contribution to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The amount was the contribution of the owners and residents of Purva GrandBay Apartment on Marine Drive, Ernakulam for assisting those who have suffered during the floods.
Sivaprasad, Vice President, R. A. Muhammed Secretary and Narendranath Treasure, Mohammad Ayyob, Member and Jayan K, Member of the Association were present on the occasion. Accepting the cheque District Collector said that this was a laudable effort and exhorted other Apartment Associations and Residents Associations to voluntarily contribute generously to the CM’s Distress Relief Fund.
Joseph who has been spear-heading efforts at improving voluntary efforts to enhance the preparedness in responding to disasters in high rise Apartments in the state, pointed out that the next major disaster in the state may not be a flood but a fire or other such major disaster in high rise buildings.
Most generals prepare for the last war. But the next war is always very different from the last war. The case of disasters would also be the same, Joseph warned. Therefore he stressed the need to heighten the preparedness against all forms of disasters especially against fire and such other disasters in high rise apartments and building.
