Thiruvananthapuram: Tomin J Thachankary, Senior IPS officer and Transport Commissioner was removed from his post by Kerala cabinet today in accordance with the demand from Transport Minister A K Saseendran. He has not been assigned a new post.
The minister and his party had asked chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan to remove the officer from the transport ministry as they found him unmanageable and insubordinate. The officer had bypassed his minister and kept him in the dark about various policies announced by the transport ministry. The controversial ‘No helmet NoPetrol’ policy was announced by Thachankary without consulting the minister.
Thachankary belongs to a new breed of government officers who are defiant and take their ministers and ruling parties for granted. The trend started during the tenure of earlier UDF Government headed by Oommen Chandy continues surprisingly under the present dispensation headed by Pinarayi Vijayan, who reportedly does not tolerate such insubordination.
