

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The Trivandrum Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) of Milma has posted a record profit of Rs 39.07 crores during 2024-25, which has already been passed on to dairy farmers of four southern districts as additional price incentive and cattle feed subsidy.
Noting that this was the highest profit made by TRCMPU in a decade, TRCMPU Chairman Mani Viswanath said out of this Rs 35.08 crore had been passed on to farmers as additional price incentive and Rs 3.06 as cattle feed subsidy.
Dairy farmers of milk cooperative societies affiliated to TRCMPU in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts have already received the benefits.
As a summer season relief measure, TRCMPU Board also decided to provide an additional incentive of Rs 8 per litre of milk for farmers in April 2025. With this, the procurement price of milk will go up to Rs 53.13 per litre, which is expected to entail a commitment of Rs 6 crore, Viswanath said.
Aimed at comprehensive development of the dairy sector and welfare of farmers, TRCMPU has set apart an amount of Rs 27 crore for implementing various schemes during the financial year 2025-26, Viswanath and TRCMPU Managing Director Dr Muraly P said.
After the present Board took over charge in December 2023, around Rs 30 crore had been spent for improving productivity and welfare activities of dairy farmers.
The welfare schemes for families of dairy farmers include the wedding aid scheme ‘Ksheera Sumangali’, medical aid scheme ‘Swanthana Sparsham’ and savings scheme for girls “Ksheera Soubhagya’.
Also, during this period TRCMPU had implemented schemes including silage at subsidy rate, calf adoption, cattle insurance with subsidized premium and cattle feed subsidy scheme.
TRCMPU has also implemented effective market expansion initiatives during the period.
