THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
In a big support to dairy farmers in four southern districts, Milma’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) today announced a scheme to provide subsidy of Rs 100 for each bag of Milma cattle feed sold through milk cooperatives in July and August.
“The subsidy on cattle feed for two months will be proportionate to the quantum of milk being procured from dairy farmers. TRCMPU incurs an additional commitment of Rs 1.25 crore for implementing the scheme,” said TRCMPU Chairman Mani Viswanath here.
Viswanath said the cattle feed subsidy is in addition to the implementation of various welfare projects to the tune of Rs 20 crore for farmers in FY 2024-25.
Apart from the measure aimed at increasing milk production and procurement, TRCMPU is currently providing cattle insurance subsidy to farmers.
The Chairman said Rs one crore has been earmarked for providing insurance subsidy ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,500 for the coverage period.
Viswanath added that steps have already been taken to allot benefits of the insurance scheme to as many eligible dairy farmers as possible in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts.
