KOCHI:
M.A Yusuf Ali, Chairman of Lulu Group, extends support for Uttupura Project, an initiative to give free meals to the patients and bystanders at General Hospital, Eranakulum. He has given a donation of rupees one crore for the project. Muhammad Y Safeerulla, district collector, received the cash draft from M.A Nishad, director, Lulu group. The Uttupura project was implemented by P. Rajeev while he was the Member of Parliament. It costs an amount of rupees fifty thousand each day. It was P. Rajeev, district secretary of CPM, who requested help from M.A Yousuf Ali, chairman of Lulu group, during the Haritham Jeevanam music night, a music program conducted by Indian Medical Association (IMA) to raise fund for Uttupura. This is the first time a person is donating such a huge amount for the Project.
The Uttupura Project was started with a limited fund of Rs. 30 lakhs. The project is currently being run with the help of sponsorships from individuals and organizations like IMA. On delivering the keynote address on the occasion, P. Rajiv said that, “what matters is the smooth running of the project rather than just implementing the project. GH is a model to the country. The hospital continues to maintain the NABH accreditation over the last few years.” District collector appreciated the founders of Uttupura project. On delivering the cash draft, M.A Nishad said that, M.A Yusuf Ali is extending the financial assistance in this holy month of Ramadan to run the Uttupura project for an whole year.”
