World Lupus day observation, organized together by Kerala Arthritis and Rheumatism Society and Dr. Shenoy’s Care hospital, has been inaugurated by Muhammad Haneesh, managing director of Kochi Metro. Snehasparsham project, an initiative to help the financially backward Lupus patients, also got launched at the ceremony. Dr. Varghese Cheriyan, president of IMA Kochi, inaugurated the Lupus walkathon conducted by the lupus patients at the Jawaharlal Nehru international stadium road.
Lupus is a disease caused due to the defect in the immune system of the body which can be kept under control with proper medical care. Statistics shows that there are 10 lakh lupus patients in India and more than 30000 in Kerala. Women between the age group of 15 and 30 are mostly affected by the disease. As part of the lupus day program, Dr. Padmanabha Shenoy, Founder of Care hospital and ambassador of Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology, Dr. K. Narayanan, consultant rheumatologist at care hospital, Dr. Saumya Jagadheesan, consultant dermatologist at AIMS, Dr. P C Dileesh, ophthalmologist at Giridhar eye hospital and Dr. Jacqueline Michel, life style medicine specialist, lead class on ‘ Lupus and related Health issues’.
