The first step towards the implementation of the 9-point charter to address major concerns at tourism spots got underway with the setting up of Chapters of KTM at each destinations, supported by tourism entrepreneurs. The first chapter was launched at Thekkady on Thursday, November 3.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had launched the 9-point charter at the inaugural function of the ninth edition of the Kerala Travel Mart on September 27, World Tourism Day.
‘The 9-point charter is an effort to maintain Kerala as a sustainable destination and offer better services to customers,” said KTM Society President Abraham George. “Towards this effect, sub-committees have been formed to execute the charter, in a practical and successful manner.”
The charter programme—a CSR initiative of KTM–includes waste and energy management, rain water harvesting, beautification, promotion of organic farming at destinations, efficient use of energy extensive use of local produce and products, reducing the use of plastics and improving greenery. Stakeholders across the state will participate in the initiative.
KTM Society President Abraham George, CSR Committee Chairman Jose Dominic, KTM Treasurer Jose Pradeep and Executive Committee Member Scaria Jose, participated in the programme. The project was started at Kumarakom today (November 4).
KTM Society members identified nine key issues that needed to be addressed as part of improving the infrastructure at Kerala’s major tourist destinations, and now the action plan is in place to implement the projects, George added
