KOCHI:
Providing critical support to the aspiring entrepreneurs to be part of the larger ecosystem, Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has given accreditation to 23 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centers (IEDCs) in colleges in the state to start incubators.
Moreover, KSUM chose the Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam to start its first research incubation programme.
The decision comes as KSUM’s sustained moves to upgrade IEDCs in colleges to incubators to support youngsters coming out from the colleges. The aim is also to bring more academic incubators supported by central government to create jobs, wealth and businesses aligning with national priorities.
The decision to go for incubators will strengthen the efforts towards a solid startup ecosystem, facilitating a network of educational and financial institutions besides industries. The incubators can give startups expert advice on law, finance, technology, intellectual property rights and related matters.
The incubators are for those IEDCs that have been under KSUM for three years. The chosen ones will develop incubators of 2,000 square feet.
The institutions where startup incubators are to come up are Cochin University of Science and Technology, St. Albert’s College, Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering and Technology, Abertian Institute of Science and Technology, Christ College of Engineering, Federal Institute of Science and Technology, Government Engineering College (Barton Hill), Mangalam College of Engineering, Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Marian Engineering College, Mohandas College of Engineering and Technology, Muthoot Institute of Technology and Science, Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Saint Gits College of Engineering, Sreepathy Institute of Management and Technology, St Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology, ToC H Institute of Science & Technology, Trinity College of Engineering, Government Polytechnic College (Perinthalmanna), Lourdes Matha College of Science and Technology, Mar Athanasius College of Engineering and Sulamussalam Science College.
KSUM is a nodal agency of the Kerala government for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state.
