KOCHI:
The country’s largest design festival, being held by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) later this week, has employed e-bikes to promote publicity for the two-day event in the city, tuning to the new-age spirit of environmental sustainability.
Volunteers of the December 16-17 Kochi Design Week (KDW) are riding on four electric bicycles manufactured by lifestyle startup VAAN Moto to distribute material spreading awareness about the festival that provides a platform to present and practise international trends in the field of design.
Being organised at Bolgatty Island for innovators from across the globe to disrupt, imagine, ideate, innovate and design for a better tomorrow, authorities are ensuring that activities around KDW-3 are even more eco-friendly than the second edition held in end-2019.
KDW-3 Head (Operations & Partnerships) Keerthi Thilakan said the idea to use e-cycles stemmed from the festival’s fundamental principle of nature conservation and improving awareness on its necessity. “We are keen about resorting to more such steps. They will spread among the public the essential norms around sustainable environment,” she added.
VAAN Moto CEO Jithu Sukumaran Nair said electric vehicles have been radically changing the face of transportation. “Our e-bikes are imaginative in design, holding aloft the message of conservation,” he noted. “The cycles will strengthen the idea of eco conservation.”
KDW-3 is poised to witness a gathering of more than 25,000 delegates, comprising design professionals, architects, interior designers, thought leaders, policymakers, government officials and general public. The festival is being held in partnership with national and international industry bodies such as World Design Organisation, World Design Council and IDA (Interior Design Association).
KSUM is the nodal agency of the Kerala government for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state.
