THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The first edition of the Kerala State Central Schools Sports Meet, organised by the Kerala State Sports Council, got off to an impressive start at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium here on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating the two-day event.
Students of CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya, ICSE and Jawahar Navodaya schools are vying for honours in the two-day meet, which is the first such sporting jamboree in the country for the budding talents of these institutions. The meet brings together participants from over 1,500 schools across Kerala.
Competitions are being held in Under-14 and Under-17 categories for girls and boys. Winners will be presented with medals and certificates. Apart from the Best Athlete and Team Championship and trophies in each category, there will be an Overall Championship for the winning team.
This is the first-of- its-kind initiative in the country to bring talented students from these schools in the limelight. Prizes will be presented to the winners at the valedictory function at 4 pm on January 31.
