  • Kerala Needs Socially Committed and Sustainable Model of Constructions: Dr. Shahi Tharoor MP

By NE Reporter on November 23, 2018

    KOCHI:
“Kerala, at present needs socially committed and sustainable model of construction”, said by Dr. Shashi Tharoor MP while inaugurating the 4 th state conference of CREDAI KERALA held at Lulu International Conventional Centre, Kochi.

Sustainable model of construction will not happen when deforestation and illegal constructions are damaging the environment. We need more expertise in building homes that can resist and survive landslides. To create such initiatives the state government and agencies can use the expertise of organizations like CREDAI. Profit, Planet and People (3P’s) are the three mantras a construction company should follow.

Profit may not be the refining parameter but the other two have social commitments. Prefab construction model which is a great success in foreign countries can be implemented in Kerala to create light and durable buildings. Healthy building ideas can be made through these innovations and technologies. A wide range of opportunity can be opened in this field as these construction methods reduce harmful impact on ecology. Tharoor also reminded about the Gadgil Committee report on the background of Kerala flood.

Gujarat model of reconstruction after the 2001 earthquake is an excellent model to be adopted for the reconstruction of Kerala. We should learn from Gujarat and can be followed the methods implemented there. Constructions on ecologically fragile areas have to be avoided. Organizations like CREDAI should focus more to invest on disaster surviving methods.

Demonetization has badly affected the construction sector. Unfortunately it destroyed the job opportunities. India cannot deny the fact that anti globalization sentiments is hugely arising around the world. At this point of time, customers are expecting best values for their money. Artificial intelligence and new technologies can be used to satisfy the needs of the customers and thus they can be given unlimited services.

Kerela government should focus more on developing infrastructure facilities. There is a huge need for affordable homes in Kerala. The state government has to coordinate with the organizations in the construction sector in developing such affordable homes for the needed, said Shashi Tharoor.

Jaxay Shah, President, CREDAI National, Dr. Najeeb Zackeria, Chairman, CREDAI KERALA, Krishna Kumar, Secretary General, CREDAI KERALA, M V Antony, Conference Chairman, CREDAI KERALA, Siva Reddy, Vice President, CREDAI- SOUTH INDIA, Ramesh Nair, CEO &; Country Head, JLL INDIA were present. JLL in associating with CREDAI KERALA, unveiled a study report on the Kerala Real Estate scenario in the two day conference.

Chritopher Charles Benninger, American Indian Architect and Planner will participate in the panel discussion regarding the new trends and possibilities in sustainable design and construction sector on 24 th November at 10.30 am. Pawan Agarwal, an international motivational speaker, Author, Educationalist and successful Entrepreneur who took the story of the Mumbai Dabbawalas to the corporate India and the world will also be addressing the function. Elias George, Chairman India Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare will be the Chief Guest for the valedictory function, on 24 th November, at 1 pm.
