  • Island Warehouse Pavilion Opens for Public, Completing Major Venue Launch for Kochi-Muziris Biennale

By NE Reporter on December 15, 2025

    KOCHI:
The Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) today formally opened the Island Warehouse Pavilion, Willingdon Island, one of its largest and most significant exhibition spaces, marking a major milestone in the current edition of the Biennale.

The pavilion, spread over 20,000 sq ft, was opened in the presence of Chairperson Dr Venu V, curator Nikhil Chopra, President, Kochi-Muziris Biennale Bose Krishnamachari, and Curator Nikhil Chopra with HH Art Spaces.

With the opening of the Island Warehouse, the Biennale completes the rollout of its key venues, following the earlier opening of the Kochi city venues and the Mattancherry–Fort Kochi sites.

Spread across an expansive industrial heritage site, the Island Warehouse Pavilion plays a central role in the curatorial vision of this edition, offering scale, flexibility and context for several major works on display. The pavilion will be open to the general public from Monday, allowing visitors full access to one of the Biennale’s most important exhibition spaces.

The opening has been undertaken with the approval of the Board of Trustees and Advisors of the KBF, underscoring its significance within the Biennale’s overall programme.

The artists/collectives, who will be exhibiting their works at the Island Warehouse Pavilion, include LaToya Ruby Frazier, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Arti Kadam, Meenu James, Marina Abramovic, Khageswar Rout and Laxmi Nivas Collective.

The other names are Sabita Kandanappally, Raja Boro, Sayan Chanda, and Vinoja Tharmalingam. The KBF has invited collaborators, patrons and the public to join in celebrating this important moment in the journey of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.
