  • IOTA to Foment Disruptive Innovations: Michael Gord

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
    The introduction of cryptocurrency like IOTA will fuel many disruptive innovations challenging both conventional businesses and governance systems, said blockchain guru and founder of MLG blockchain academy Michael Gord.
    He was addressing a one-day conference on the Internet of Things (IoT), jointly organised by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) and Kochi-based Electronics Incubator Maker Village at Park Centre, Technopark here recently.
    Michael Gord, who was the special guest at the event, talked on the topic “Potential Opportunities and Future Prospects of Blockchain.” He addressed the audience connecting the IoT and the blockchain with his experience on decentralized IoT. IOTA is a cryptocurrency designed for the IoT.
    Michael Gord is also an Advisory Board Member of BEN (Blockcahin Education Network), a global network of blockcahin communities. Dr Saji Gopinath, Director, IIITMK inaugurated the event, which was attended by Technopark community, students, IoT enthusiasts and young entrepreneurs.
    Jithin Krishnan, Scientist, Sree Chithira Thirunal Institute Medical Science and Technology, introduced the crowd to the innovations in health care on IoT. Pramod Potti, Associate Director of Ernst & Young talked about his views on the IoT and its applications in consumer products in the context of supply chain and operations.
    Senior Specialist from Tata Elxsi, Manoj Kumar, briefed about the applications of the IoT in the automotive sector. Besides, a panel discussion, moderated by Prof. Rajeev Srinivasan, Adj Faculty – IIMB, on the emerging trends of IoT was held. A product demo session was also arranged to showcase the products developed in Maker Village by the incubated companies.
    Meanwhile, the city-based IIITM-K is all set to launch its proposed Kerala Blockchain Academy (KBA) soon. According to Dr Asharaf. S, Associate Professor, IIITM-K, the KBA will act as a window to the wonderful world of opportunities in blockchain technology for students, young professionals, budding entrepreneurs, local industry and governmental agencies.
    Further, in collaboration with BEN, the best-in-class blockchain experts and researchers group across the world, KBA plans to explore the possibilities of leveraging blockchain technology for public good, capacity building initiatives and promoting disruptive innovations and entrepreneurship with blockchain technology, he added.
