KOLKATA:
India today demonstrated its prowess in seafood technology by showcasing latest advancements, ranging from a web-based software that caters to all activities of marine products business to energy-efficient and eco-friendly equipment, at the 23rd edition of the three-day India International Seafood Show (IISS) that commenced in the city today.
SeafSoft, a web-based software developed by Chennai-based Tayyib Global Solutions, has been built to cater to various activities in seafood industry, including fish catch, processing and export management. It has multiple modules catering to the needs of seafood packers, buyers, buying agents, traders, trawler operators and aquaculture farmers.
Nasser Iqbal, Principal Software Architect, Tayyib Global Solutions, said the best part of the software is that one will get the traceability, which is good for the US FDA Food Safety Modernisation Act (FSMA), the new regulation that has just come up.
“We offer end-to-end traceability, costing and accounting, besides taking care of inventory and yield analysis. We can give a cloud-hosted solution or it can be installed on the customer’s premises,” he added.
Iqbal said the major problem being faced by an exporter is lack of visibility about what is happening in the factory, what is the yield he is getting and its impact on the cost.
He added that such a software application is introduced for the first time in India in the seafood industry.
The biennial showpiece event in the marine sector, organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in association with the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI), offers a robust platform to various industry stakeholders for inking business deals, forging new contacts, leveraging market linkages, and introducing new technologies and products to the global market.
‘IISS, The World’s Seafood Basket’ is the theme of the three-day event that provides an ideal platform for interaction between Indian exporters and overseas importers of the country’s marine products. There are over 350 stalls spread over 7,000 sqm, showcasing a wide range of products based on automated and IT-aided technology and energy-efficient systems for value addition.
The expo also has a wide range of innovative equipment for food processing, refrigeration and cold chain system that are energy-efficient and eco-friendly.
The eco-friendly refrigeration systems put up by firms like AOWID Refrigeration Co. Ltd., Frascold India Private Ltd., and GEAare functioning with the aid of natural refrigerants.
Lalit, India Country Manager, AOWID, said their refrigeration system has less power consumption compared to traditional refrigeration systems. According to him, their participation in the expo is also for creating awareness among exporters about safety, energy- efficient equipment and importance of embracing green initiatives.
Musaddik Saiyed, Senior Engineer, Design, Frascold India, said the components of theirrefrigeration system are from other countries and it is designed and developed for the first time in India.
The expo also features aqua culture practices, value-added seafood products, high-end machines for food processing, food additives, enhancers and preservatives.
