THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The sprawling venue of upcoming India Skills Kerala 2020 finale at Swapna Nagari, Kozhikode, will showcase Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and eco-friendly initiatives.
The event, scheduled for February 22 to 24, will witness scores of youths from across the state vying for honours in the final round of the multi-tier competitions, jointly organized by the Industrial Training Department and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), the State Skill Development Mission under the Department of Labour and Skills.
Apart from the 52,000 sqft. competition space, the venue will have an aesthetically-erected stage for the inaugural ceremony, more than 100 stalls, VIP pavilion, food court, and parking space.
“The venue will reflect Kerala’s rich heritage and culture, and also go strictly by the green protocol. Traditional and natural materials like bamboo, coir and tender coconut leaf will be used for the creation of the stage and other facilities,” said Chandrasekhar. S, Managing Director, KASE.
“The entire event, right from the district-level competitions, has been designed to take Kerala to the forefront of skill sector. Those who have taken up cookery, bakery, and hair dressing as hobbies can also participate as these disciplines have been added to the list of competitions. We are also exhibiting the traditional products of the state at the venue,” he added. The 3D layout of the main venue has already been prepared.
A team of experts from National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) had visited the finale venue of India Skills Kerala 2020 on December 10 to explore the possibility of choosing the site to host the national finals of World Skills India 2020. The number of competitions in the event has been increased to 42 this time, which include 20 academic skills and 22 specialized skills.As many as 300 ITI students will join the event as volunteers.
The District level competitions will be held from January 15 to 20, 2020. The Zonal events will be organized in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode from January 27 to 31. The State level winners will make it to World Skills India 2020, and the national winners will get the opportunity to participate in World Skills 2021, Shanghai, China.
Age is the only eligibility criteria to compete in this skill competitions. The competitions in Water Technology, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, and Information Networking Cabling are open to those born on or after 01.01.1996. For the remaining skills, candidates who are born on or after 01.01.1999 can compete.
