NEW DELHI:
The Delhi Medical Council (DMC), acting against a fake doctor, has stated that it is the duty of every hospital to verify the credentials of the treating doctor hired by them. The medical council was responding to a case where a quack, using a fake MBBS degree, was practicing at a Delhi hospital.
“A copy of this order be also sent to the Directorate General of Health Services, government of NCT of Delhi for taking stringent action against SHL Hospital under the Delhi Nursing Home Registration Act for employing an unqualified person and allowing him to treat patients,” Dr Girish Tyagi, registrar, DMC.
The quack, RK Yadav, was caught after a female doctor and sister of the patient filed a complaint of medical negligence against him following the death of her brother. The incident took place on November 16, 2017, after Utpal Saikia, working with a Delhi-based NGO, was admitted to SHL Hospital in Munirka of South Delhi as he was unwell.
According to Mochumi Saikia, patient’s sister and doctor at the hospital, Yadav prescribed some medicines for her brother and within some time, he was unconscious. He was immediately referred to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Yadav had claimed that he was registered with the Goa Medical Council and his registration number was 1360. However, on checking the website of Goa Medical Council, it was found that the given registration number belonged to some other doctor, named Rajendra Pratap Singh.
A complaint against the hospital and Yadav was filed at Vasant Kunj Police station, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the Delhi Medical Council (DMC).
