Firmly believing that awareness on road safety should start from young students to make a safer India of tomorrow, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) brought its road safety awareness social initiative to Alleppey for the first time.
As the first step to spread awareness to children on importance of road safety in Alleppey, Honda sensitised over 3500 students of Jyoti Niketan English Public school starting as young as 4 years of age under its National Road Safety Awareness camp. Nationally, Honda 2Wheelers India started its biggest ever National Road Safety Awareness programme exclusively for young school students in January 2019. Every month, Honda is spreading road safety awareness to more than 15,000 students of 10 schools across India. This corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of Honda has already educated over 58,000 school students across 37 cities. And now, Honda’s initiative has extended its reach to Alleppey.
Speaking on why Honda is reaching out to students and the need for greater road safety awareness, Prabhu Nagaraj, Vice President – Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Being in the business of mobility, Road Safety education is an integral part of Honda’s philosophy. With a strong intention of making road-use safer in all aspects, we are extensively educating all spectrum of society on road safety for last 18 years. As a next step, we are now focusing our efforts to groom the school students to make them a responsible riders and road users of future. Our initiative in Alleppey got an overwhelming response and we successfully spread road safety awareness to more than 3500 school students. As a responsible corporate, Honda will expand this initiative to more cities in near future.”
More than selling two-wheelers, Honda believes in realizing Safety for everyone and its responsibility is not two-wheelers riders of today but road users – be it pillions, passengers or even pedestrians of all ages. Making learning on the serious topic of road safety more fun-oriented, Honda had different activities for different age groups:
INTERACTIVE SESSION: Honda’s specially trained road safety instructors educated children about the dos and don’ts while commuting in a school bus and cycling.
PRACTICAL LEARNING: 9 to 12 year olds learnt how to ride their cycle safely, or as a pillion on two- wheeler and importance of safety gear on roads. To make this learning more practical and fun, children got to learn on the specially imported CRF50 motorcycles.
SCIENTIFIC THEORY LEARNING MODULE: Safety riding theory session was conducted for the kids of 13-17 years as well as teachers.
SPECIAL RIDER TRAINING ACTIVITY: For 16+ year children, special rider training activity was executed under the guidance of Honda’s trained safety instructors.
LEARNING BECAME FUN: Honda also conducted fun educational activities like road safety games and quizzes on daily basis so that young school children learn about safe riding in a fun way. 4 to 5 year olds were taught the basic do’s and don’ts on road usage by pictures and comics.
