Hero MotoCorp Ltd, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer and one of the largest corporate promoters of sports in the country, today wished the Indian national U-17 football team best of luck for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017. Hero MotoCorp is the ‘National Supporter’ of the marquee event to be held in India from October 6th .
Pawan Munjal Chairman, MD and CEO, Hero MotoCorp, met with entire Indian Team and the Team Coach, and extended his best wishes to the team, at a special ceremony held here today.
Pawan Munjal, a keen promoter of Indian sports and sportspersons, presented the Team Captain, Amarjit Singh Kiyam with a football, as a token of best wishes from the entire Hero family. Marking the occasion were senior officials from All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Luis Norton de Matos, the coach of the Indian U-17 team.
Commenting on the occasion, Pawan Munjal said, “Hero is now the biggest supporter of football in the country – being the main sponsor of both the men’s and women’s national teams across age-groups, and also through the title sponsorship of Hero ISL, Hero i-League and the Hero Super Cup. During the run-up to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Hero MotoCorp also organized a nationwide ‘Trophy Experience’ Tour, where fans had the opportunity to witness the actual FIFA U-17 World Cup Winner’s Trophy in person. The Trophy was showcased at multiple Hero showrooms across all host cities – Goa, Mumbai, Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi and Kochi. The initiative garnered massive support from over one lakh football fans who flocked to Hero dealerships to have a closer look at the trophy and cheer for the Indian team.
Hero MotoCorp has been associated with various disciplines of sports including football, golf, cricket and field hockey for over two decades now. Hero is the Title Sponsor of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) – the country’s first franchise-based football tournament since 2015.
