KOCHI:
Singers Hamzu and Yahiya Azeez charmed a packed audience on the sun-drenched lawns of the Government General Hospital with soothing and mellifluous renditions as the ‘Kochi Ghazal’ musical series under the ‘Arts and Medicine’ show organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation entered its third week today.
The 171st episode of the all-Wednesday programme was made special with some famous Malayalam
The show began with Hamzu’s rendition of ‘Innale Mayangumbol’ originally sung by K J Yesudas from the 1967 movie “Anweshichu Kandethiyilla”, followed by a popular ghazal of Umbaisab, ‘Veendum Padam Sakhi’ sung by Yahiya. Alka from the crowd joined the lead singers with ‘Jalthe Hein Jiske Liye’, a nostalgic number immortalized by iconic Talat Mahmood.
Together they sang a medley of fourteen soul-warming numbers concluding the concert with the golden Hindi song, Oh Meri Zohra Jabi. The performances were met with loud cheers from the audience.
Hailing from a Malayali family with strong musical ties, which includes great musicans like Gul Mohammad, K G Sathar and music director Azeez Bava, Yahiya continues to be a passionate vocalist and a noted name among music lovers.
Hamzu, also who has roots from a family with a musical bent and is currently employed in the Arabian Gulf, is a professional singer. Both Hamzu and Yahiya are associated with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra.
“I am thrilled to offer a few hours of joy through a musical journey that temporarily transports the audience to a blissful world of music, taking them away from the routine distress and chaos through music,” said Hamzu, a vocalist who continues to croon for Mehboob Memorial Orchestra whenever he gets the opportunity.
“There is no better art form to reach out to the people in distress and offer solace than music,” said Yahiya Azeez who is a regular and active presence at the weekly shows.
Arts and Medicine, held every week, is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial orchestra and sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services) providing solace to patients through therapeutic music.
