The Green Carpet project, conceived as a unique initiative to welcome tourists to a Clean and Green Kerala, is being strengthened at Kumily, in Idukki district.
As part of the programme, a one-day cleanliness drive will get underway on February 20 at 8 am. The programme will be inaugurated by Peerumade MLA E S Bijimol. The programme is being undertaken jointly by the Kerala Tourism Department, Kerala Responsible Tourism Mission, National Service Scheme, Tourism trade organisations and other government departments.
Idukki District Tourism Deputy Director K S Shine and DTPC Secretary Jayan P Vijayan has requested the cooperation and active participation of various tourism companies, tourist taxi and auto rickshaw drivers, and residents of Kumily in carrying out the programme. The Green Carpet project is a unique initiative rolled out by the state government and the Department of Tourism in a bid to ensure clean and waste-free environs,
availability of potable water, clean relaxation centres and rooms, access to electricity and the like, so that tourists arriving in Kerala would feel at home.
The project also envisions setting up a hassle-free and efficient complaint redressal mechanism and more.
As per the project, Kerala Tourism aims at rolling out the green carpet to welcome tourists with all amenities that would be of use to them for a comfortable stay in the state.
