NEW DELHI:
The Congress on Thursday slammed the government over the disinvestment of profitable public sector undertaking and accused it of selling the country.
Slamming the government, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said: “This government is going to sell India totally.” Hitting out at the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, the Congress leader said that they say that we are not selling the profitable PSUs. “But they are only selling the profitable companies. This means what government says and does is completely different,” he said.
Lamenting at the government, Venugopal said: “On one hand they are saying nationalism — Make in India and on the other hand they are selling the entire profitable PSUs.” He said Congress will raise these issues in Parliament.
The Congress leaders remarks came a day after the government announced a blockbuster disinvestment plan, lining up the sale of five PSUs, including majority stakes of oil company Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), Shipping Corporation of India and a 31 per cent stake in Container Corporation of India (Concor) along with management control.
