THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The four-day zonal competitions of ‘India Skills Kerala 2018’, being jointly organised by Industrial Training Department and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), gets underway from Wednesday (April 11) in three centres in the state.
Labour, Skills and Excise Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan will inaugurate the South Zone competitions at Govt. ITI, Chackai, Thiruvananthapuram. A Sampath, and V S Sivakumar, MLA, will attend.
Central Zone competitions will be kicked off by B.D. Devassy, MLA at Govt. ITI, Chalakkudy while North Zone competitions will be inaugurated by Babu Parassery, President, District Panchayat, Kozhikode, at Govt. ITI, Malikkadavu in Kozhikode.
The ten winners in each of the trades at the district-level are competing at the zonal-level. The list of district-level winners is available at www.indiaskillskerala.com. Winners and runners-up of each trade from the three zones will compete at the grand finale to be held at Marine Grounds, Kochi from April 28 to 30.
The winner at the state-level competitions in each trade will get Rs one lakh as prize money and the runner-up Rs 50,000. They will also get a trophy and a citation. A consolation prize of Rs 10,000 will be given to the participants who make it to the state-level competitions. There will be a total prize of Rs 38 lakh.
The state-level winners will represent Kerala at the ‘India Skills 2018’ being held in July, which will pave the way for their participation in the 45th World Skills Competition in Kazan, Russia in 2019. At the Thiruvananthapuram function on Wednesday, Ramakrishnan will also give away cash awards and citations for the Best Principal, Best Group Instructor and Best Instructor in Govt. ITIs of the state during the 2017-18 academic year.
Awards will also be given to the student-winner of the all-India skill competition, state-level skill competition-winning trainees and their instructors.
