It’s a homecoming of sort for K.K. Aryamol as she returned to her alma mater aiming to repeat her prize- winning bid in India Skills Kerala competitions for the second consecutive time.
An alumnus of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Malikkadavu, Aryamol had vied in the Fashion Technology category and put up a great performance in the previous edition of the event. Subsequently, she was selected for a one-week training in Singapore in October 2018. According to her, she got an excellent training there.
Aryamol, who has completed Fashion Designing and Basic Cosmetology courses from the ITI, is currently working in a private institution. Albeit she got a job in another sector, she is still interested in Fashion Designing. The Balussery native is waiting for the right opportunity in her preferred field to give expression to her potential in embroidery, bead work, draping, stitching and painting.
India Skills Kerala 2020 got off to a sparkling start in the district with overwhelming participation of contestants, starting from the age of nine . The district-level competitions will conclude in Government ITI, and Government Women’s ITI at Malikkadavu on January 20.
Malikkadavu Women’s ITI is hosting competitions in Fashion Technology, Floristry, Web Designing, and Graphic Designing, while Automobile Technology, Brick Laying, Carpentry, Cabinet Making, Electronics, Electrical Installations, Joinery, Mechanical Engineering CAD, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing and Heating, Welding, and Wall and Floor Tiling will be held at Government ITI.
As many as 500 contestants from various parts of the district are participating in the competitions. India Skills Kerala 2020 is being organized by the Industrial Training Department (ITD) and Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), both under the State Labour and Skills Department.
The district-level competitions will be followed by Zonal events in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode between January 27 and 31. The grand State-level finale is scheduled from February 22 to 24, at Swapna Nagari, Kozhikode. In the previous edition, competitions were held in 20 skills. This has been steeply increased to 42, which include 20 academic skills and 22 specialized skills.
The winners at the State-level competitions will get Rs One lakh each as prize money, and runners up Rs 50,000. All finalists will get Rs 10,000 each. The State-level winners will qualify for the national competitions and the prize-winning performers at the national round will get an opportunity to represent the country at World Skills 2021 in Shanghai, China.
