Farmers’ Producer Organisation is a developing concept to address the common issues of Farmers, especially in the field of input supply, sales outlet and other capacity building exercises.
NABARD, Kerala has 105 FPOs promoted under Producer Fund of which 2 are in Lakshadweep. NABARD is taking initiative to encourage convergence of various developmental schemes of Government of India and Government of Kerala.
NABARD conducted series of review meeting to evaluate the performance as well as impact on the recent flood. A meeting was conducted in Ernakulam to review the performance of FPOs of Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts on 04/10/2018. It is the fourth meeting in the series.
Earlier NABARD conducted meeting in Trivandrum, Alappuzha and Calicut for reviewing the position of FPOs in other districts. NABARD has extended grant support to all these FPOs and the overall impression is FPOs are functioning well. The areas of concern are less number of members, low share capital and single product based approach. Agencies like SFAC, Departments of State Government have shown interest to join hands with FPOs to improve the marketing of Produce from the Farmers.
Meeting in Ernakulam was inaugurated by Dr P Selvaraj, General Manager, NABARD and attended by Usha K, DGM, Scaria Mathew, AGM as well as District Development Managers Ashok Kumar Nayar, Ramesh Venugopal and Divya K B.
