GOA:
The state has witnessed rough sea conditions and high waves due to the impact of cyclone Luban and Titli. Drishti Maine lifeguards yesterday conducted a rescue operation involving 3 Indian tourists. Two individuals were rescued and brought back to shore while one victim was unable to be traced. The rescued survivors were males, aged 19 and 23 respectively hailing from Indore in MP.
Despite repeated warnings and alerts from lifeguards, tourists continue to not pay heed and ventured into the rough seas. On the evening of 11th October at approximately 6.30pm, the tourists ventured into the sea. A short while later a large wave pulled three persons into the choppy waters. On witnessing the victims in distress, Drishti lifeguards Vinod Salelkar, Ramesh Gaude, Santosh Garnkar and Siddesh Bhagat launched the jet skis and rescued into the waters. The victims were brought ashore safely on the jet skis. The survivors’ vitals were checked and found to be normal, hence they were released. The search operation continued till late evening for the third victim, but he was unable to be traced. On the morning of 12th October at around 9am, a body was identified in the sea along Baga beach. The victim was fished out by was confirmed by Goa Police to be that of the missing victim.
The state government has issued an advisory cautioning visitors not to venture into the sea due to the unfavourable weather and sea conditions. The state appointed lifeguarding agency, Drishti Marine monitor the weather conditions daily and man the beach stretches.
