NEW DELHI:
The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Trust has given its approval to start the phased procurement of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts worth Rs 6,414 crore for the Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra.
At a meeting chaired by Shaktikanta Das, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, on Tuesday, approval was granted for the implementation of trunk infrastructure for roads and utility services, water pipeline from source and a water t
The Bidkin project is spread over 31.79 sqkm and is Phase II of the Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) of DMICDC’s Maharashtra Node. The development is proposed in further three phases and is scheduled to be completed by 2020-21.
The industrial activities in SBIA are expected to generate nearly 1,50,000 direct and indirect jobs once the project is complete and fully functional in the next 15-18 years. It is estimated that SBIA will attract a residential population of about 300,000.
The SBIA is envisioned as a very large-scale industrial cluster including abundant land provisions for high growth industries with wide-ranging infrastructure services, convenient access and provisions to handle environmental waste with minimum impacts. Proximity to the existing industrial areas, Aurangabad city and existing airport and railways, gives strong support for export-oriented businesses.
The total area of SBIA, measuring 84.17 sq km, has been divided into two parts. Part-I, consisting of an area of 40.18 sqkm, is further divided into two phases. Phase-I covers an area of 8.39 sqkm located north of Jalna Road adjoining the existing MIDC Shendra Industrial Park. Phase-II includes the remaining area of 31.79 sqkm located near Bidkin.
Shendra Industrial Area in SBIA is located at a distance of approximately 15 km from Aurangabad and is 8 km east of the Aurangabad airport. Bidkin Industrial Area in SBIA is located about 25km south of Aurangabad and 26km from Aurangabad airport. SBIA is planned as a new industrial corridor extending from the existing Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Shendra Industrial Park to the town of Bidkin.
A funding of Rs1,533 Cr for Phase I of SBIA was approved by the DMIC Trust earlier in March 2015 and by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in May 2015. Key infrastructure contracts have been awarded and on-ground work has already begun. The site is available for construction of industries, and access to temporary power and utilities is ready. All approvals required for the development have been obtained.
SBIA is one of eight industrial nodes the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (DMICDC Ltd.) is proposing to develop in the first phase of India’s biggest infrastructure project. The DMIC, which has the 1,500 km long Dedicated Freight Corridor as its backbone, will incorporate eight ‘Smart Cities’ built to international standards in its Phase -1 with emphasis on expanding the manufacturing and services base in India.
Besides providing state-of-the-art Plug-and-Play infrastructure for industries, these smart cities will have massive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) networks in place for efficient function of all departments including e-governance, civic administration, traffic management, safety and security, emergency response, utility services and telecommunications.
