KOCHI:
CUSAT plans to promote interdisciplinary studies in big scale through convergence of various schools under the Centre Interdisciplinary studies and Innovation (CISI). Announcing 9 courses, 2 centres and School of Forensic Sciences, Dr.R. Sasidharanunfolded the plans to place the University on the top of World University Ranking.The University will be spending an additional amount of 2 core rupees in scholarships and fellowships to promote research and innovation.
Dr.Sasidharan, Convenor, Standing Committee for Finance & Purchase was presenting the budget of the University for 2021-22 before the syndicate on Friday. The budget expects a total income of Rs. 312 cores and expenditure of Rs. 372 cores. The Vice- Chancellor Dr.K.N.Madhusoodhanan presided over the function. All syndicate members, Pro VC Dr. P G Shankaran, Registrar Dr. V. Meera and Finance Officer M S Sudheer were also present.
In addition to the M.Sc in Forensic Science which is running, the university will offer courses in Computer Science with specialization in Data Science (M.Sc), Economics and Finance by Centre for Budget Studies(M.Sc), Data Science and Data Analytics in the Department of Statistics (MTech), Biological Sciences (Integrated MSc) Computer Science with specialization onArtificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (Integrated MSc), M.B.A in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Mechanical Addictive Manufacturing (MTech) and, P.G.Diploma in Green Literature. The courses will start in this academic year itself.
The new centre for Green Literature Studies plans to focus on the writings on ecology or literature and Environment from an interdisciplinary angle. CUSAT will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee year in 2021-22. As a part of the same, it will institute Green practice award for the Department/ office, place a Golden Jubilee monument, conduct a national level lecture series in science literature, national hackathon, patent enhancement scheme, science exhibition, art centre and, outstanding Alumni award. It also plans to introduce students’ medical insurance scheme. Next generation network will be another innovative proposal in the budget.
