KOCHI:
Dr. Ratheesh Kumar R.T, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Marine Geology and Geophysics, Cochin University Science and Technology, has been selected as a NASA Postdoc Fellow/Visiting Scholar for the ‘Mars Data Analysis Programme’ (MDAP) to be hosted by University of Kentucky.
The proposal for research related to the internal structure, geodynamic processes and evolution of the planet Mars, was approved by NASA with an adjectival rating of ‘Very Good’ for the merit score of the proposal. Dr. Ratheesh obtained his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, and has worked as a Centenary Postdoctoral Fellow of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, and International Post-doctoral Fellow of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Based on a multidisciplinary research of integrating geological and geophysical research that focus on the origin and tectonic evolution of the Earth, Dr. Ratheesh has published his findings in many top- level international journal publications. He was a recipient of the Best paper Award in the 25 th Kerala Science Congress- 2013.
CUSAT has granted him permission to work for this project in US for a period of two years. Dr. Ratheesh is the son of N. Raveendran Nair and E. Thankamani of ‘Ratheesh Bhavanam’ in Pothencode, Thiruvanthapuram.
