January 2019 Sales Decline Continues Across Segments
Production
The industry produced a total 26,260,121 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-January 2019 as against 23,907,502 in April-January 2018, registering a growth of 9.84 percent over the same period last year.
Domestic Sales
The sale of Passenger Vehicles grew by 3.72 percent in April-January 2019 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, the sales of Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicle & Vans grew by 3.63 percent, 1.92 percent and 13.28 percent respectively in April-January 2019 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 22.79 percent in April- January 2019 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) increased by 21.50 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles grew by 23.61 percent in April-January 2019 over the same period last year.
Three Wheelers sales increased by 14.79 percent in April-January 2019 over the same period last year. Within the Three Wheelers, Passenger Carrier sales registered a growth of 15.89 percent and Goods Carrier grew by 10.08 percent in April-January 2019 over April- January 2018.
Two Wheelers sales registered a growth at 8.07 percent in April-January 2019 over April- January 2018. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 3.19 percent, 11.02 percent and 3.57 percent respectively in April-January 2019 over April-January 2018.
Exports
In April-January 2019, overall automobile exports grew by 16.77 percent. While Passenger Vehicles exports declined by (-) 9.27 percent, Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers registered a growth of 6.98 percent, 49.06 percent and 19.49 percent respectively in April-January 2019 over the same period last year.
