THIRUVANANTHAPURAN:
CPI(M) leader A K Balan has firmly spoken out in defense of the Students Federation of India (SFI), addressing concerns that the student outfit may become a liability for the Left Front if it doesn’t amend its conduct.
Balan highlighted that SFI, a creation of CPI(M), has flourished over the years and stressed that it would not be allowed to be dismantled by any internal or external forces. ‘We will not let anyone destroy it,’ Balan declared, underscoring the significance of the student movement’s legacy.
His remarks were a direct response to CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam’s recent criticisms. Viswam had argued that SFI’s recent actions do not align with the principles of the Left student movement and warned that if these behaviors continue unchecked, the student wing could hinder the Left Front’s progress in the state.
Viswam referred to recent controversies involving SFI members, including an incident where a college principal was allegedly slapped, and a KSU leader was beaten up at the University of Kerala. He stressed the importance of guiding young SFI members back onto the correct path, promoting historical awareness and ideological fidelity to the Left movement.
